ThinkCure at the LA NPN 5K & LA Marathon Team raises over $100,000 at a fun and successful weekend event. The big day for the 5k had arrived. The weather was cool, the feelings were warm, and the results for ThinkCure were hot! ThinkCure raised more than $100,000 this past weekend, thanks to the efforts of our walkers and runners in the 5k and the Marathon. Thank you! This means more cutting-edge and collaborative cancer research at City of Hope and Childrens Hospital! ![]() A sea of blue shirts with red exclamation points were visible at the start line; with 172 walking or running to raise money for ThinkCure, our young charity had one of the largest turnouts during the 5k/Marathon weekend! First, some of us started out with coffee, courtesy of Peet’s, coconut water, courtesy of Vita Coco and healthy snack bars, courtesy of KIND Bars, bananas, muffins and bagels. After our walkers/runners finished the scenic, hilly route from Dodger Stadium into Elysian Park, some came back for massages, courtesy of Fremont College students. ![]() We walked and we ran for those we lost: Top fundraisers, ThinkCure board member Howard Sunkin and his daughter Erica, and the team of Wesley Yip and Max Lubin raised money in memory of Jamen Amato, who lost his battle to cancer last fall; a dozen Dodger employees ran and walked in memory of Desiree Sanchez, the Dodgers ticket manager who lost her cancer battle in February. Some walked or ran in honor of those still fighting cancer, and others participated to support the search for new cures, so that there will continue to be more and more cancer survivors each year. ThinkCure President Janet Clayton, Director of Development and New Media Sarah Gallagher, and ThinkCure Associate Ingrid Garcia, and a dozen volunteers, greeted all of our supporters with goodie recyclable bags donated by Whole Foods. Special shout outs to our volunteers: Jack Armstrong, John Vega, Liliy Casas, Kenny Sanchez, Stephanie Evans, Allene Kim, Julia Lepe, Bertha Lepe, Valerie Lepe, Marco Rodriquez, Diana Darr, Lisa Oechsel and Kimberly Burton. ThinkCure continues to grow, thanks to your loyalty and support. We are happy that we raised more than twice the amount that we raised during our spring fundraiser last year. We’re even happier that our base of support continues to increase---more than 1,500 people donated to the 5k or marathon on behalf of ThinkCure! You made it happen! You are bringing Los Angeles together in common cause to beat cancer right here in our community. We at ThinkCure like to do good and have fun doing it. Stay turned for more events that will keep us all doing well while doing good. |
