Grantmaking
Process
ThinkCure! worked with Drs. Stephen Forman and Stuart Siegel, Vice-Presidents of the ThinkCure! board, to develop our Grant Program. Drs. Forman and Siegel are experienced practicing oncologists, medical researchers and administrators familiar with federal and private grant review processes.
We wanted to select a qualified and objective scientific peer-review panel to recommend ThinkCure! funding priorities each year.
Participants in a ThinkCure! scientific research symposium
Drs. Forman and Siegel helped us to find four nationally recognized and respected doctors in the national cancer research community as members of the grant review panel. Drs. William Carroll of Mt. Sinai Medical School, Fred Appelbaum of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, Steven Nimer of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and John Maris of Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia have all accepted the assignment to serve as members of the grant review panel for ThinkCure!.
The doctors will convene the panel to receive and evaluate research proposals, and ThinkCure! will provide funding to projects once a year. Research proposals are due on April 1, and the funding cycle for that year will begin on July 1.
The panel will rank and prioritize the proposals. Research may be entirely laboratory-based, translational or clinical research that is directed at this goal. We will particularly encourage research that proposes collaboration between the cancer research partner institutions of ThinkCure!. We will also look to fund new and novel ideas.
